The Lower Mustang Trek takes you into one of Nepal’s most intriguing regions, often called the “Gateway to Upper Mustang.” Situated in the rain-shadow area of the Himalayas, Lower Mustang features arid landscapes, deep river valleys, colorful rock formations, and traditional villages deeply influenced by Tibetan culture.
Starting from Pokhara, the trek follows the Kali Gandaki River—the world’s deepest gorge—between the massive peaks of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Along the trail, you pass through charming villages such as Kagbeni, Marpha, Jomsom, and Tukuche, known for whitewashed houses, apple orchards, ancient monasteries, and prayer flags fluttering in the wind.
Lower Mustang is ideal for travelers who want to experience Mustang’s unique culture without requiring special permits. The region offers stunning views, comfortable tea house accommodations, and a moderate trekking pace, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers. This trek is a perfect blend of nature, culture, history, and Himalayan adventure.
