Upper Dolpo, situated in the high-altitude region of western Nepal, is a remote and mystical area that shares strong cultural and historical ties with Tibet. The region is partially connected via Jufal Airport and lies adjacent to the stunning Shey Phoksundo National Park, making it a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Upper Dolpo is renowned for its Tibetan-influenced culture, with traditional villages, ancient monasteries, and a lifestyle largely untouched by modernity. The dramatic landscapes of the region—ranging from rugged mountains, deep gorges, crystal-clear lakes, and high-altitude plains—offer an awe-inspiring experience for trekkers and adventurers alike.

This area gained international recognition when the 1999 Oscar-nominated film “Himalaya” (also known as “Caravan”) was shot here, capturing its mesmerizing landscapes and traditional culture.

Upper Dolpo is also a sanctuary for rare and endangered wildlife, including the elusive snow leopard, Himalayan blue sheep, and musk deer, making it a prime destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature photographers. Its combination of remote beauty, rich culture, and unique biodiversity makes Upper Dolpo one of the most remarkable trekking destinations in Nepal.
